Push PromotionsRedesign demo

1,299 pages rebuilt. Not one address lost.

Push Promotions is a UK event and promotional staffing agency with offices in Wolverhampton, Birmingham and London. Its WordPress site had grown to 1,299 pages. We rebuilt all of it as fast, pre-rendered pages in a modern design, every page at its old address with its old title, description and words, so the move keeps what the site has earned in search. It runs as a demo ahead of the switch-over.

The problem

A dated site that search engines still trusted.

The old site was a 2019 template with no route to a quote beyond one long form. A hundred pages had nothing linking to them, every blog post's only main heading was the words "READ MORE", and the Google tag fired before anyone had agreed to it.

Starting again usually costs a site its rankings. The brief was to modernise everything without losing a single address that Google already knows.

What we built

01

Every page, at its old address

All 1,299 pages pre-rendered at the addresses they had, with their titles, descriptions and words carried across.

02

Redirects that add up

1,871 redirect rules, 451 WordPress short links and 5 patterns, compiled into 4,162 lines of web-server rules.

03

Checked, address by address

Tests that visit every address in the baseline: 1,503 of 1,503 pass, and the build fails on any broken internal link.

04

A quote on every page

A four-step quote form on every page, in place of one long form.

05

Light pages

The home page went from 12.8 MB in 71 requests to 0.66 MB in 21.

06

A 3D welcome

Two reaching hands in three.js, paused off screen and replaced by a still pose when a visitor asks for less motion.

Under the surface

The engineering

  1. 01

The live site was crawled from its sitemaps, four pages at a time, recording each page's status, title, description, canonical address, headings and structured data.

  2. 02

Each page became one JSON file, and its images were re-encoded to WebP in two or three widths with content-hashed names.

  3. 03

Pages are rendered with React 18 and TypeScript to static HTML; only the interactive parts load any JavaScript.

  4. 04

Trailing-slash and mixed-case addresses behave as they did under WordPress, and old feeds and sitemaps redirect.

  5. 05

Structured data for pages, breadcrumbs, articles and the business, and analytics that wait for consent.

Shown with permission

Push Promotions has agreed to this work being shown. The new site runs as a demo until the switch-over, so the site at their own address is still the old one.
