BlipIn build

A rain test you can scroll through.

Blip designs performance gymwear, techwear and outdoor kit with technology built in, and sells it wholesale to retailers, gyms and outdoor stores. As a new brand it had nothing online. We are building a site that sells the story rather than a basket: a rain test you can control, the range as line sheets, how trade works, and a trade enquiry for styles and units.

Blip's site: a hooded techwear jacket in falling snow, with rain and snow controls and the words built for more

The problem

A new brand with nothing online but product sheets.

Blip's buyers are shops, not shoppers, so there is no checkout and no price list on the page. Prices go out with each quote.

What a buyer needs is to believe the kit works. So the site puts the jacket in the rain.

What we built

01

A rain test in the browser

Up to 2,600 raindrops, 6,000 splashes and 900 beads of water, hitting the jacket in real time, with rain and snow you can turn up or down.

02

Physics on the graphics card

Drops collide against a 384 × 384 depth-and-normal map drawn on the GPU, instead of testing every drop against a million triangles.

03

A lighter model

The jacket model cut from 16.4 MB to 4.9 MB with WebP textures and Meshopt compression.

04

A tested timeline

The scroll timeline is written as pure functions with unit tests.

05

Trade, not checkout

A trade enquiry for styles and units, with prices sent with the quote.

Shown with permission

Blip has agreed to this work being shown. The site is still being built, and the product pictures come from Blip's own concept sheets.
